Patti Shelby, FNP

Patti Shelby, FNP

Born in Galax, Virginia, I relocated to the Atlanta area at age 12. After graduating from Osborne High School in Marietta, I went on to advance my career at Eckerd Drugs. Moving from pharmacy tech to the role of Store Manager, I spent a total of 17 years in the drug store business. I left he drug store to help my husband start his company in 1999. I spent 11 years helping my husband in the roofing industry before making the decision to return to school. Starting at Fortis College, I became a CAN, went to work at Kennestone Hospital, and immediately started Chattahoochee Tech. Gaining my core classes from Chatt Tech, I then transferred to Chamberlain College of Nursing earning my BSN in 2015.

My career then took me to Cartersville Medical where I worked as a Med-Surge nurse, and to Northside Hospital in Atlanta working in the OR, pre-op and recovery room of the GI/Pulmonary lab,  before starting Chamberlain again to earn my Master of Science in Nursing in 2018. During my clinical rotation for my MSN, I was told about Blue Ridge AHEC which helps place students with preceptors. I was placed here at Good Sam with Dr. Howard Sohnen. From the first day of clinicals, I fell in love with the mission, the patients, and the coworkers at Good Sam. I remember my husband asking me, “How was your first day?”, to which I replied, “It was just special, I don’t know how else to describe it. It is what I am meant to do.” Throughout the years, I have developed a lot of wonderful relationships with patients and coworkers.

It is truly amazing to be able to get up each morning and come serve the patients at Good Samaritan. I have never wanted to be anywhere else. It is a true honor to receive a referral from a patient. There is no greater compliment. Words can not express the joy I receive from my job. I am beyond blessed to work here and serve this amazing community. In my spare time, I love to read, travel, and spend time with my family. I am blessed with three wonderful children and an amazing husband,  Robert.
